Ready Player One – Rate 8/10

The book is always better than the movie.

I understand you cannot put everything from a book into a movie, but the changes that were made were a bit disappointing. With that being said, if you watch Ready Player One and wish to read the book, you are in for a treat because you will find the book to be completely different from what you have seen. You’ll be in for a fun new adventure!

I was very excited to see this movie because I read the book about a year ago before it was announced, and when I found out Steven Spielberg was directing it (*internal screams*) I knew this was going to be A-mazing! Also, when I saw the trailer, I was floored and had to watch it again!

I want to say right off that if I didn’t read the book, this movie would be just another lovable Spielberg film with a story that was well told, and anyone could fall into the trap of this portrayed futuristic world.
However, with brief knowledge of the book (since I didn’t reread it before I went), I still found myself thinking “hey wait…, woah that was new…, or uhh what’s that…” Despite this draw back, I became lost in the game of finding Easter eggs, the developing friendships, and the virtual reality world, the Oasis.

The quality of the graphics and the special effects were something I haven’t seen in a very long time, and I loved the pop culture references as well. I loved seeing the grittiness of the sets. The small details in each scene give a real touch of reality. The 80’s music was perfectly chosen for each scene, and it actually gave me chills during one part.

I found myself immersed in the thought of people in the future needing to escape to this video game world/virtual reality life. It’s scary to see the parallels between this future world and the modern day.

Overall, I gave this movie an 8/10 due to the fantastic effects, story, and flow of the movie despite the deviations from the book.

This film is a fun adventure that is worth seeing!

Keep it real,

Robyn

  2. Hmm it looks like your website ate my first comment (it was super long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I wrote and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to everything. Do you have any suggestions for first-time blog writers? I’d certainly appreciate it.

    1. Why thank you! I am actually new to writing critics but I try to not read others and go into a movie with no bias. When writing I stay true to myself and use my own words as if talking to a friend. I also try not to put any pressure on writing. You’ve got to be confident in what you say. I hope that helps!
